I've compiled a list of OpenSim related sites and have a brief overview of the initiative and its related splinter projects.

This is the site of the original OpenSim project. The first concerted attempt to use the SL viewer's reverse-engineered protocol/message-system information to construct a viable non-LL simulator. The OpenSim code stands as the foundation for all existing 3rd party grids and development projects.

Openlife home. Currently the largest and most active 3-rd party SL-viewer based grid. I believe it was the first to put out a ready-to-run OpenSim distributions set up with a physics engine, among other features. Has an extensive web user-portal. Working in partnership/merging its code base with realXtend to transition its entire grid over to realXtend sims.

Website of the talk-of-the-town comprehensive OpenSim implementation developed by two Finnish companies. Some of the impressive realXtend viewer/sim features include: OGRE rendering engine, Python scripting, textures from URL, uploadable meshes, customizable avatar skeletons and voice chat support.

I'll add on to this list as I spider along links more. Anything need to be added, questions addressed?

I am in the process of updating the Ars Virtua freebie store on Second Life [currently located @ the Chima development space]. In an effort to make the update "more complete", please post suggestions for items/categories you'd like to seee included. I am already adding "personal" items for both genders, costumes and scripts. I am expanding/improving the Houses and Furniture vendors and considering adding a sounds vendor [I only have 3 freebie sounds in my inventory -- gotta draw the line somewhere? Might need some nice people to drop me some sounds].

Also, I am looking for Art and Education landmarks to include in the Landmark vendor [Art galleries, art/building schools, other places to go to learn stuff.... &c.]

Please let me know your ideas, suggestions, comments.

A few things we talked about in the guild meeting:

1) the intent to move towards more a more democratic structure

2) the desire to start to grow the guild

3) the creation of guild officers (bank, perhaps class leads)

There was also some question about what our goals are with the guild, and how we can encourage art and shenanigans with our structure.

As a first step and from our first meeting we have rolled Tauren Druids.

As part of the Tranz-herd all of their names start with tranz, and they are nekkid.

The plan as of now is to gang them up (colors, equipment, etc) and then start rollin' as a herd. To join create a Tauren Druid on Demon Soul, whose name starts Tranz then level to 10 we will be meeting in the barrens for our next set of adventures.

A few months ago all the addons there downloaded as zipped files, which you can open without buying a certain program, however, todat I wanted a hunter addon but for some unknown reason they converted ALL the files to RAR, which is not free and is expensive. Any suggestions on where else I can get good WoW addons?

Hello Guild,

I now have an Alliance ALT on the Earthen Ring server.

Her name is Wiwwiwwi and is a Night Elf Priest.

Within minutes, she ascended from level 1 to 3 ;-)

This is the ALT I have mentioned to some Guildmembers as being involved with a Mail-Art style performance project.

When I get the time, I will probably set up a new blog for her.

My main focus is still the Sigilbringer project...After Sigilbringer reaches Level 30 and has all the totems, that avatar will do 3 ritual performances and then retire where I can focus more on my ALT...Wiwwiwwi will not grind much and so will be more free to explore the WoW world on her own terms.

I was wanting to know the names of the Guildie ALTs on Earthen Ring so I can mail them precious objects.

I will also contact the Science Guild in there to see if they wish to be mail recipients.

Cheers,

It's come to my attention that OpenLifeGrid is running a "Free Community Region Program." The requirements are that the project be a:

"1. Community minded Project (Openlife and exterior).
2. Be an Active Participant in the OpenlifeGrid.
3. Considerate of these factors Promote participation OpenlifeGrid/ Showcase etc Interaction."
http://openlifegrid.com/LearningCenter/Forums/tabid/54/forumid/6/threadid/82/scope/posts/Default.aspx

I think that, given enough interest among Ars Virtua, I could put forward a strong proposal. (Certainly more so than most of the casual social-themed proposals out there) An Ars Virtua OLG region could be a significant gateway between SL, OLG, artists, the work-in-progress Ars Virtua grid, and more.

Any thoughts on the types of projects that could run through such a space?
Who's interested? :)

hi ppl.

Mez/Bowwtoxx here, just giving y'all a heads_up about a project that i'm currently awaiting for approval from via those on hi [ie the relevant ars virtuosos;)]. james has had the dirt on it 4 a while now; thought i'd post a summary of it below 4 u all 2 c/comment on.

chunks,
mez/bt

--

* General Intro: _Augmentology 1[L]0[L]1_ is [will be] a blog that operates as a type of ongoing working manual/procedural log discussing the evolution and practical formation of online/synthetic environments. The emphasis will focus on concepts that assist in governing/shaping these environments through self-generating principles and corresponding social codas. The entries will examine post-geophysically defined notions of reality developed through a mixture of case-studies and deconstruction of game behaviours/outputs.

* Basic premise: Each post will discuss/analyse dynamics, structuring and mechanics specific to different augmented platforms. Each post will add to an agglomeration of information specific to synthetic psychology/sociology, and will create a body of data resulting in a new discipline called "Augmentology". The blog will include a definition description of Augmented Reality broadened past the traditional concept [will define] to include synthetic + interactive platforms.

* Title: 1[L]0[L]1_references a combination of "101" and "LOL" as well as "Room 101" from George Orwell's novel _1984_. These references combine to produce a conceptual melange of ideas ie a space containing an entity's worst fears, 101 indicating a basic educational unit + LOL speak - which are all relevant in specialty augmented reality/social dynamics.

Too bad they can’t settle down, grow some flax, buy some land, put up a house, you know, evolve beyond war. They could soak up those excess gold coins if they had *land*. -- Prokofy Neva on WoW

It is Passively Multi-player Online Game, and I started playing at SxSW. I noticed that they tweeted the signup page http://pmog.com/users/new which is generally CLOSED.

If you want in, now is the time to "pull the trigger." It requires a firefox plugin and requires nothing more complex than your normal web surfing, but it has the promise of making you consider how you surf and think about "another layer" on the WWW.

The excavation group does not need to consist of a 40 person raid. Even though, it takes 40 level 55-60s to raid Molten Core, it only takes 10 level 70s. I figure by the time our core members are level 55+ there will a few 70s in our guild. (Creative Cow, Elah Silverlights). Tookis and Myriam Moore will be at least in their 60s. However, the more people we have interested, the less high level each of them needs to be. Elah would like to go to black rock depths next week which is kind of a prereq. I think it will be good practice at least for staying alive, in a real instance.

An antisocial geek looking for friends, quite an unfortunate paradox. Goes by the handle 'Cr8iv'. He had a rough time growing up, was often the butt of jokes, and beaten up a lot. He tried his hand at engendering to make devices that would help even the odds. His high hopes that a robotic chicken and a ‘death ray’ would help him stand up to his tormenters were met with mixed results. He is often accompanied by his pet lion and longtime companion, Schrödinger. As of late he came to the realization that he didn’t need to be stronger, he just needed to look inside his heart and also train Schrödinger to be a blood thirsty killing machine. After this realization things have turned around for Cr8iv.

Heisenberg was the star athlete in high school and every popular. But now that he is older he is slowly realizing he cant just skate by on his charm and good looks. He is studying jewel crafting to try to make something of himself. He also chose this profession because it makes his lingering vanity a bit more affordable. Recently he took a spiritual journey to try to find himself and came back a walrus.

Just a quick notice that the newly formed Master Psychokinesis Sub-Committee will be meeting later in the month. Members interested in joining are welcome to attend, the meeting will likely take place in Trotsky's. I will ask that we refrain from any vulgar displays of power as kid Neutrino's powers have been described as Vaderesque.

I would like to advance the idea of starting the AV guild on the alliance side again. I see this as a side project despite our work on the TAZ, I think this a good move for the Party.

John, James, Kyung and I met this evening to talk about the Feb 14 planned performance. We discussed the experiences of the last instance.

The goal of the next instance is to actually develop a charter for this organization while in world while also involving members of the Alliance faction. The plan is to meet somewhere on the map and hold a meeting to decide the points of the charter of our cross-factional guild and game play. Votes will be in-world.

Specific issues to work out in the next few days are:

A.	-what system of rules of order do we follow for the meeting
 1.	Thomas will research rules systems, consensual system seems to make sense at this time

B.	-how to recruit Alliance members
 1. start a AV alliance guild
 2. John and Kyung will work on recruitment from the Facebook WoW user app. 3. Thomas is adding a second acct to enable him to form a Alliance persona
 4. can anyone else start an 'alliance' acct

C.	-Where?
1.Durnholde Keep seems to difficult to get low level Alliance to; Thomas will research

HI Guildmates,

We are planning the next session of workshops and recruitment for doing what I have referred to as a Temporary Autonomous Zone (TAZ).

As you might have remember it was very hard to ramp up a bunch of people in a day. From this experience many of us realized we had to take smaller steps toward this. As an excercise in creating a ladder of goals to hit, James suggested using the 10 day trial period to host a bunch of practice sessions and and do a performance at the end of that period. This way people can try it out with little or no monetary commitment.

We need to hammer down some details and this is the sketch of the planning cycle James and I came up with tonight.

11-25 Another noob and early experience workshop plus the office hours. the idea is to get some people who want to play to come and goof around on trial accounts. We can lend our collective XP to the iniates as community service and also as outreach to explain how we think about making art using games.

11/26 special office hours to run a capture test. James will be at UCSD recruiting for his Virtual Worlds class so we might get some spill into our grind/test from the southlands. There might also be a special time to log on during the day to do something as a demo for James' presentation at UC

11/26 to 12/1 mentor sessions with guild members. Can each of the the guildees pick a day and set two hours to help recruitees with questions. It doesn't matter what time of day, We will work out a calendar of some sort.

12/2 A dress rehersal and another capture test. May be another workshop/mentor session at the lab.

12/3 the TAZ performance and machinima session

Please add replies if you have suggestions or can help me with planning.

Owen is an academic, constantly pouring over his tomes for hints to strengthen his range and effect. A son of the reknown leatherworking Moore family (Uncle Joe is the famous UC trainer), he decided early on that he preferred to work with his mind but still has a deep respect for the material arts. Due to Owen's relentless slaughter of serpents in WC his guildmates gave him the epithet: Snake Charmer.
