we should probably repost the store to slexchange... let me know when you think it is ready. I would push for maybe having two stores(?) one that is moddable and one that just has cool free junk in it.

freebie store (modable)
freebie store (includes non-modable items)

or some such.

At the request of a "purchaser", i have stripped out all "no modify" objects from a Freebie Store (it is now called v2.0) so that the entire thing is all perms. Unfortunately, many of the better items from the store are "no modify". My plan is to create a vendor of the "no modify" items to accompany the v2.0 store, so that the "purchaser" may re-add those items to their unique store.

I will need to update the credits notecard. However, it, too, will need to be moddable. Where does this leave the project?

Jenene,

This is terrific! I have a few ideas to monitor guild vault traffic and donations. Until we find out what we want I expect most donations will be sold as opposed to used. It might be worthwhile to think along the lines of twink items (lvl 19, 29, 39, etc).

I dunno, either way this is a great start, let me know what you need here, and be aware that I am trying to help with some of the management... so let me know if I get in your way : )

So I have been working on organizing the guild vault.

Tab one (w00t):
four first columns are empty for character transfers and donations, potions, elixirs, scrolls, poisons, donations, misc, and bags.

Need feedback: thinking first four columns should be enough space for both donations and character transfers...but if you put something there that you don't want moved while Mohana is online, please whisper so I won't mess with it. Anyone else have other thoughts to determine between donation and character transfers??? Let me know - all opinions welcome.

Tab two (chants and matt)
recipes, patterns, schematics, plans, scroll of enchants, misc class stuff, and glyphs.

Tab three (lichie stuffs)
gems, leather, ores, herbs, and food/meat.

Tab four (etj)
mainly leaving this one up to Kyung. cloths, essences, shards, dusts, rockets, misc things for disenchant.

For now I have taken inventory and will be monitoring what people use and don't use.

Need Feedback: Wondering if anyone has ideas on how to let me know if they don't want something sold...I will eventually be selling items that have been there for awhile untouched to add more money to the guild.

Feel free to e-mail me with suggestions as I check that more frequently than I do this site. e.jenene_at_yahoo.com

Thanks,

I have talked to Kyung and Jenene about working with the guild vault. Since Kyung has been doing enchants and tailoring for the guild I offered to let her oversee one of the tabs ( e t j) - I will make sure everyone can drop things in that tab for disenchant, the matts will then be used for future guild enchants. I am going to make sure people can look into that tab as well, so if you are an enchanter you can request things from that tab.

tab 4 - drop in items for DE and cloth (netherweave and frostweave) for bags and other tailoring.

Jenene on the other hand will be doing more of an overview, and helping with the sales of items and keeping the other tabs organized.

tab 1 - FFA if you see something there that will help you, take it, if you have caught on to the system and know of something that others will want, drop it in. if it is getting cluttered clear it out. Leave 4 columns on the left open so that characters can do transfers. (all guildies have 1000-10000 daily transfers in this tab)

tab 2 - Still working on it, new guildies won't have as much access to this, but still some

tab 3 - crafting and twinking - this tab is storage for guild based supplies used by our crafters.

A few things we talked about in the guild meeting:

1) the intent to move towards more a more democratic structure

2) the desire to start to grow the guild

3) the creation of guild officers (bank, perhaps class leads)

There was also some question about what our goals are with the guild, and how we can encourage art and shenanigans with our structure.

the tranz-herd has spoken and the word is:

we will continue to "twink" at level 19 until Sunday November 30th during office hours where we will then level...

the reasoning is several-fold here, in that it gives others a reasonable mark to work towards and it lets us know the date of change for purposes of investment in twinkage.

beyond that we are interested in the following enchants / items

boots : minor speed
goggles : engineering (head piece) and bombs
level 19 leather armor
agility enchant for feral druid
stamina stamina stamina

Hail Guild!
Thanks to everyone for helping me complete my performance..it will take me quite awhile before I can scrape the dedicated free time to blog all of the documentation from the many months we have collaborated.
I put a placeholder post in the meantime on my blog - http://sigilbringer.blogspot.com
I will also occasionally be doing casual performances on Earthen Ring's server as Wiwwiwwi - http://wiwwiwwi.blogspot.com
FOR THE HORDE! FOR OWZL!
Cheers,

As a first step and from our first meeting we have rolled Tauren Druids.

As part of the Tranz-herd all of their names start with tranz, and they are nekkid.

The plan as of now is to gang them up (colors, equipment, etc) and then start rollin' as a herd. To join create a Tauren Druid on Demon Soul, whose name starts Tranz then level to 10 we will be meeting in the barrens for our next set of adventures.

Thanks for the Air Totem ritual today!

I hope to have a celebration area in the unrezzed portion of Org (the secret place that Cuttier knows about) next Sunday the 7th.

If there is time after video-recording the party festivities (which mainly includes chanting for Owzl and totem rezzing), then maybe we can re-shoot the fire ritual.

As you all may know, this week begins my academic studies (and my job as a Teaching Assistant for an Undergrad course) so I will be insanely busy and so I hope to wrap up as much of this as possible ASAP.

It will take me an eternity to blog everything since my research is now a top priority but lets all do what we can.

AIR TOTEM RITUAL

"The Cerebral Winds of Air - OWZL's Final Installation of Aesthetic Consciousness".

1) Before signing in to WoW (unless it is right after the other ritual, just keep it in your mind), have a glance at the Owzl sigil (drawn pattern) to the right of my blog...try and picture the sigil in your mind's eye before logging into WoW.

2) We meet on the top of Razorwind Canyon - Durotar 48, 34

3) I will make a long winded introduction in the public text chat (speech bubbles) about why we are here today etc etc.

note: this might be a more long-winded intro than usual as the Air ritual is the final one and I will talk about how OWZL is finally coming to life...I will also ramble about the cerebral qualities of air which represents the charging of the intellect.

4)I cast a single air totem and make a cryptic text incantation that will appear as a public speech bubble...

5) During this time, you try and remember what the sigil looked like in your mind's eye.

6) You then say, "FOR THE HORDE! FOR OWZL!" and then we all jump off the cliff...

7) We then chant "FOR THE HORDE! FOR OWZL" over and over- please continue to visualize the sigil while doing this.

8) Chances are, we will not die so just go to your sigil coordinate points while alive. DO NOT fIGHT BACK IF ATTACKED ALONG THE WAY. If you get killed, then just become a ghost and go to your sigil point.
If you are alive, try and use any spell or gear you have that might make you invisible, transparent or just "airy looking"...if you do not have invisibility, there might be a way to make yourself more airy. If you cannot make yourself transparents or invisible somehow..just visualize yourself as invisible while running to your sigil point..it is about the intellect, after all.

9) We then place ourselves on the map to line-up with certain points on the sigil symbol...When you run to your own coordinate as a ghost (or as alive while trying to be invisible) you then face EAST and remain there until the end of the performance.
If you are still alive, rez any wind or air related spells you have and/or invisibility spells or simply imagine you are airy and invisible.
Here are the exact coordinates for each player

SIGILBRINGER - Durotar 40, 37

CARTIER - Durotar 39, 35

SLIZ - Durotar 39, 41

SUFFRAGIST - Durotar 39, 44

SOOTSO - Durotar 40, 48

CUTTIER - Durotar 36, 44

10) I will say another cryptic incantation using text (yes, the same speech bubble)...

11) I will then announce the end of the Air Ritual (after rezzing all four of my elemental totems one last time).

NOTE: if there is time, I wish to have a Guild celebration party for OWZL in that unrezzed area that used to be Orgrimmar...Cuttier knows how to get there.
I would like to rez all 4 totems there and chant for OWZL a few times.

HAIL GUILD!

First I would like to thank you all for helping me level up to 30...Special thanks to Sootso/Elah and Tookis for doing this.

Of course, all of you helped me level in your own way and many thanks has also been directed towards each and every one of you.

Now that I have the Air Totem, I can complete the remaining three rituals...

Here are the instructions for the Fire and Water rituals that will be carried out Monday August 18 at 8 PM Pacific.

I will be posting the Air Ritual sometime in the next week or so...

Here are the instructions for the Fire Totem ritual called "From Scrying to Frying - OWZL's Re-Quest for Fyre"!!

Some of you took part in the Earth totem ritual and it is very similar...just some minor variations:

1) Before signing in to WoW, have a glance at the Owzl sigil (drawn pattern) to the right of my blog...try and picture the sigil in your mind's eye before logging into WoW.

2) We meet at Razor Hill Barracks - Durotar 54, 42. You will see 5 fire-pits there. We remove our armour and stand in our own fire pit, facing each other.

3) I will make a long winded introduction in the public text chat (speech bubbles) about why we are here today and I will reference the first fire ritual where we saw Owzl's many faces for the first time.

4)I cast a single fire totem and make a cryptic text incantation that will appear as a public speech bubble...

5) During this time, you try and remember what the sigil looked like in your mind's eye.

6) You then say, "FOR THE HORDE! FOR OWZL!" and then we make sure everyone is dueled to death...the highest level one will need to be killed by the slightly lower level until all are dead...I am not sure how the lowest level will kill themselves..hopefully by dying at the same time - please continue to visualize the sigil while doing this.

7) Hopefully, we all end up in the same graveyard and I am hoping we can still see our ghosts.

8) We then place ourselves on the map to line-up with certain points on the sigil symbol...When you run to your own coordinate as a ghost you then face SOUTH and remain there until the end of the performance.
Here are the exact coordinates for each player:

SIGILBRINGER - Durotar 38, 50

CUTTIER - Durotar 32, 49

SLIZ - Durotar 35, 48

SUFFRAGIST - Durotar 47, 47

ELAH?/SOOTSO?/MYRIAM? - Durotar 40,48

9) I will say another cryptic incantation using text (yes, the same speech bubble)...

10) I will then announce the end of the Fire Ritual.

If we have time, I would like to also do the Water Totem Ritual called "Drowning for OWZL - A Water Ritual Streaming in Realtime".

1) Before signing in to WoW (unless it is right after the other ritual, just keep it in your mind), have a glance at the Owzl sigil (drawn pattern) to the right of my blog...try and picture the sigil in your mind's eye before logging into WoW.

2) We meet in the water at Scuttle Coast, Durotar 63, 50.

3) I will make a long winded introduction in the public text chat (speech bubbles) about why we are here today etc etc.

4)I cast a single water totem and make a cryptic text incantation that will appear as a public speech bubble...

5) During this time, you try and remember what the sigil looked like in your mind's eye.

6) You then say, "FOR THE HORDE! FOR OWZL!" and then we all dive down to the bottom......

7) We then chant "FOR THE HORDE! FOR OWZL" over and over while drowning to death - please continue to visualize the sigil while doing this.

8) Hopefully, we all end up in the same graveyard and I am hoping we can still see our ghosts.

9) We then place ourselves on the map to line-up with certain points on the sigil symbol...When you run to your own coordinate as a ghost you then face WEST and remain there until the end of the performance.
Here are the exact coordinates for each player (note: Except for Sliz and Cuttier, the coordinates are different from the fire one).

SIGILBRINGER - Durotar 32, 45

CUTTIER - Durotar 32, 49

SLIZ - Durotar 35,48

SUFFRAGIST - Durotar 33, 46

ELAH? SOOTSO? MYRIAM? - Durotar 35, 44

10) I will say another cryptic incantation using text (yes, the same speech bubble)...

11) I will then announce the end of the water Ritual.

FOR THE HORDE! FOR OWZL! - Sigilbringer

p.s. Gratz to Soosto for making it to level 70... wOOt! :-D

Hello Guild,

As some of you already know, my time as being Sigilbringer is coming to an end.

I have a deadline of August 31st to complete my grinding for the character..I hope to make it to level 30 so I can attain the last Air Totem.

I can still complete my elemental rituals in September since they only take 45-60 mins per ritual and I only have 3 of them left to do but I hope to complete all my grinding before I start Grad School in September.

I have spoken with James and he raised the possibility of Guild members offering to level up my character in my absense.

I am very supportive of the idea and for this week alone, here are the immediate days where my account will be grindable:

Tomorrow night - August 13th.
Thursday night - August 14th.

I might be on during the weekend and will definitely sign on during AV's office Hours.

Please contact James for more details :-)

I propose doing two elemental rituals on Monday the 18th at 8 PM Pacific Time.

This will be similar to the Earth ritual I did except with Fire and Water...one will involve burning (like my earliest ritual) and the other will be about drowning to death...

Does anyone know of a nice pool of water that is close to the Barrens? I plan to have the ghostly sigil configuration in exactly the same area as before.

So, I was wondering how many of you would like to do 2 rituals with me this coming monday night?

For the last major ritual, I would have to attain the Air Totem which means achieving level 30.

My bioligical self will be taking a belated honeymoon from July 25-29 so that will eat into my WoW time, unfortunately.

After I am done all the rituals, I still plan to be in WoW but as my alt Wiwwiwwi who will hardly ever grind and will focus on non-combat elements of performance.

Her blog will be ready shortly.

Many many thanks to all the Guildmembers for helping me realize my art performance series in WoW and I hope that you can help me in my remaining days to finally finish the performance off.

It is almost 1 AM as I type this so if I have missed anything, I will post a follow-up here.

Any suggestions on where else I can get good WoW addons?

Hello Guild,

I now have an Alliance ALT on the Earthen Ring server.

Her name is Wiwwiwwi and is a Night Elf Priest.

Within minutes, she ascended from level 1 to 3 ;-)

This is the ALT I have mentioned to some Guildmembers as being involved with a Mail-Art style performance project.

When I get the time, I will probably set up a new blog for her.

My main focus is still the Sigilbringer project...After Sigilbringer reaches Level 30 and has all the totems, that avatar will do 3 ritual performances and then retire where I can focus more on my ALT...Wiwwiwwi will not grind much and so will be more free to explore the WoW world on her own terms.

I was wanting to know the names of the Guildie ALTs on Earthen Ring so I can mail them precious objects.

I will also contact the Science Guild in there to see if they wish to be mail recipients.

Cheers,

At last! With the help of the Guildmembers (esp. Elah and Cuttier), I am at level 20 and am eligble to quest for the Water Totem using the "Call of Water" quest...since I am currently taking residence in Thunder Bluff, I thought I would start with this one:

Hey again,

First of all... Happy Birthday, Thomas :-)

Ok, so anyways, 4 of us could make it in tonight. I hope to see all 5 of us next sunday: me, Sliz, Shacow, Shivvy and Cuttier.

We had a "dress-rehearsal" tonight and it went well.

We have plotted the coordinates for all the sigil points:

Cuttier - Durotar 34,39

Shacow - Durotar 39,38

Shivvy - Durotar 41,37

Sigilbringer - Durotar 39,35

Sliz - Durotar 39,36

So, here is the elaboration of the script above...

1) The cliff we have chosen is "The Great Lift" in Thousand Needles.

2) When we jump, it will be from the rocky part of the cliff, and not the wooden bridge.

3) When we die, we take the "Great Lift" itself back up the cliff as ghosts...

4) We then run to our sigil positions...the farthest sigil point is 15 minutes if you run the whole distance.

5) We face North and chant "FOR THE HORDE! FOR OWZL!" Until I say my cryptic incantation to end it.

oh..here is a note: if you are a Shaman, please rez your Earth totem at the top of the cliff if you have one.

FOR THE HORDE!

Hello Guild,

I sent this ritual script off to each participating Guild member tonight but here is a copy of the script for the archives.... The name of this ritual is "EARTHBOUND TOTEM CHARGING FOR OWZL IN THE NORTHWARDS DIRECTION!":

1) We climb up the chosen mountain.

2) At the top of this mountain/cliff/whatever, I make a quick announcement and rez an Earth Totem while saying the magic incantation for OWZL.

3) If anyone else has an Earth totem, they can also rez one at this time.

4) I then say "FOR THE HORDE! FOR OWZL!" and then we all jump off the mountain/cliff together and hopefully, we all die when landing.

5) As ghosts we then check the map for each of our assigned locations and walk there.

6) Once you have walked to your chosen location-dot, please face North.

7) Once we are all in position, we chant "FOR THE HORDE! FOR OWZL!" a few times.

8) The ritual will be over shortly after I say a few more incantations...We can then do some questing if there is time.

An idiot's guide to OpenSim

OpenSim is a project to create software so that others can create their own servers that run similar to Linden Lab's Second Life servers.

Typically, people running OpenSim set up a grid, similar to the Main Grid, the Teen Grid or the Beta Grids that Linden Lab runs.

Some example grids like this are:

Central Grid
OpenLife
OSGrid

When you use a Second Life client, you can specify a parameter to get your client to connect to one of these other grids.

If you have a reason to, you could create your own Grid that you control, e.g.

NEIA Grid

In the old days of MOOs, this was a common thing. People would set up their own MOOs for their universities, or any other place they wanted.

As a general rule, there is essentially no connectivity between grids. Just as it is at best very difficult to move stuff from TeenGrid to the MainGrid, etc., it is very difficult to move stuff to the any of the OpenSim based grids.

There are a few interesting exceptions.

SecondInventory now supports OpenSim. What this means in theory as that you can create something on one grid, say the Main Grid, or an OpenSim grid, and then restore it to other grids. I've had limited success with that.

For communications between grids, there has been some work done on using IRC channels so that a space in the main grid could listen and/or talk on an IRC channel and a space in an OpenSim grid could listen and/or talk on the same IRC channel. I've heard this discussed, but I don't know anyone who has done this in practice. I think this fits in nicely with the talk about Twitter as well.

The folks at Central Grid have been working hard to get currency working in OpenSim, including working with a company to do intergrid currency exchange. I do not know how well this is working yet, and it raises a lot of issues. Most notably, some of the folks behind Central Grid have been accused of being scammers on the Second Life main grid.

It is also possible to run a portion of OpenSim so that you run just a region and that region becomes part of another groups grid. Some of the OpenSim grids discussed above have been exploring allowing remote regions to be part of their grid. I'm not sure how well that has worked yet. You can also run a region without it being part of a grid. I've done that from my laptop when I wanted to have a small Second Life environment that I could bring with me.

As a final note, Open Sim is still in early development. Unless you are pretty geeky and like playing things that might break even more frequently than the Linden Lab Main Grid, you might want to leave Open Sim to others. I'm a hard core geek, so I love OpenSim.

Okay. Perhaps that was a little bit longer and geekier than a true idiots guide to Open Sim, but I hope it is helpful.

Hey Everyone,

I have been speaking with James and I plan to go retro and do an Earth Totem ritual for next Sunday. I just need 4 other Guildmembers...who can confirm? I think the ritual will take 1 hour including preparation..after that, we could play and level up etc etc.

So, please get back to me ASAP so I can figure out the configuration.

Basically for this one, we find a tall mountain top that is low enough that we can climb up it but tall enough that we will die when we jump off of it...yes, this is another ritual suicide piece.

Like the last ritual, we visualize the OWWZL sigl (on my blog) and when we are ghosts, each member is assigned a dot on the map which they must go to and chant the OWWZL chant.

I am working on the sigil and the map...I will be showing James a draft in a few days but want to have names confirmed first...so far, it is:

Me (Sigilbringer)
James (Shacow?)

...and...maybe also(?)...

Liz? (Sliz?)
Mez? (Woshaman?)
Thomas? (Shivvy?)
David? (Cuttier?)

I know I listed 6 here but this is in case only 5 can make it and maybe some just want to play on Sunday so I invited one extra to see if they are willing to spend an hour ritualizing.

FOR THE HORDE! FOR OWZL!

Contributing code is no necessity. Though certainly allowed, I take it as having nothing to do with the community region program. They just want active contributors to the grid, content and community wise.

can you expand a little on what 2. Be an Active Participant in the OpenlifeGrid. means?

do we have to contribute code or will participation in events be enough?

It's come to my attention that OpenLifeGrid is running a "Free Community Region Program." The requirements are that the project be a:

"1. Community minded Project (Openlife and exterior).
2. Be an Active Participant in the OpenlifeGrid.
3. Considerate of these factors Promote participation OpenlifeGrid/ Showcase etc Interaction."
http://openlifegrid.com/LearningCenter/Forums/tabid/54/forumid/6/threadid/82/scope/posts/Default.aspx

I think that, given enough interest among Ars Virtua, I could put forward a strong proposal. (Certainly more so than most of the casual social-themed proposals out there) An Ars Virtua OLG region could be a significant gateway between SL, OLG, artists, the work-in-progress Ars Virtua grid, and more.

Any thoughts on the types of projects that could run through such a space?
Who's interested? :)

Both of these grids allow 3rd party sims to connect, openLifeGrid does not yet allow this.

James,

That's right the realXtend server software is not compatible with LL viewers. The realXtend viewer is compatible with the LL grid, though.

Interoperability is a big issue for OpenSim projects. With minor modification the SL viewer can connect to any web address, so far the LL viewer is the most commonly used. However this is rapidly changing as people find it's easier to engineer better and new solutions and features into "SL" by severing connection (dependency) to LL.

IBM is running sims on their own machines and LL is in the process of turning the sim code from a monolithic mess to something they won't be embarrassed to open-source.

RealXtend/OpenLife were working on a tool to import and export content to and from private locally-run user sims and the OpenLife grid, if I remember correctly. There's really three movements here: the official LL sim open-sourcing movement, the OpenSim group --which provides a non-LL sim that works with LL viewers,-- and the realXtend/OpenLife partnership --which is establishing a separate entity altogether.--

It's my opinion that openLife and realXtend are the future, and are working on what Philip had planned LL to be doing around 2010. Which is best for Ars Virtua I'm not sure; on the surface there's accessibility vs features, but deeper down there's a debate over what the future for SL or even the prophesied 3D Web will look like.

I am not so worried about fees but about scalability and the possibility of giving someone a copy by hitting a few buttons. Once it is set up in EC2 it is infinitely replicable and easily so, if we have a group that wants to do some building... that is fine give them a copy.

I was also wondering if we could setup as a street (after Snowcrash) maybe limit the number of prims to start...

Gonta,

This is great, can you talk a little about client compatibility too? I seem to remember the last is not compatible with the basic viewer. I would like to eventually be able to gateway to the SL grid, though I know that is a ways down the road...

Setting up a private sim/grid on a local machine is the most accessible and could provide the basis of a workshop. The way OpenSim is structured it's pretty easy to toss up multiple sims, and just a hop of a step to connecting multiple machines' sims into a grid.

I think there needs to be a debate over whether it's worth pursuing EC2. This is because a single OpenSim client can run any number of sims, i.e. it's own grid. The only solid benefit may be the ready availability of bandwidth with EC2. I've talked with someone more familiar with the service than I, and he says it's also pretty easy to run up fees.
